Windshield Bracket |
|
Basically, I got all the materials at Lowes.
OK... Here goes a very non-technical explanation of what I did. I used a threaded ¼" rod and cut it to length for each of the bracket posts Basically I just mounted the windshield on the bike with the lower mounts, held it in place where I wanted and measured to see how long and what sort of bend to put in the upper bracket posts so they passed through the windshield at as close to a 90 degree angle as I could manage. Windshield side: I drilled 2 - ½ " holes in the windshield where the brackets would pass through. I used a couple of grooved rubber grommets* that fit into the hole I drilled. These grommets (that might not be exactly what they called them) had a groove around the outside edge of that fit the hole I drilled, and a ¼" interior hole. (These are generally used to protect an electrical wire passed through a piece of metal I think.) I threaded a ¼" nut on the top of the bracket post,
added a washer, and added 2 rubber washers*. I passed it through the rubber grommets attached to the windshield and added 2 more rubber washers and a black plastic screw head snap-cap*. This is a hard plastic screw head cover with a flip up top. Flip up the top, pass the rod through the hole, add a ¼" nut. Make sure this nut is at the very top of the threaded bracket. Snug it up and snap the cap. Bar side: I found some tubing clamps* sized for the diameter of my bars (the kind that slip over and you tighten by passing a ¼ screw, or threaded rod in this case, through. The clamp also had the protective rubber on the inside too.) I slipped the tubing clamps over the handlebar. I slipped a piece of black shrink tubing over the threaded bracket rods and threaded a ¼” nut on the post. I then slipped the post through the tubing clamp and put another nut on bottom of the post. Put on a washer and nut and tightened the whole thing up!
*These items came from the bins at Lowes with all the specialty washers and fasteners.
